I need a home camera system that I can remotely monitor

I got a call from the home alarm company last week informing me that the house alarm had gone off. When I inquired about what zone set off the alarm, the company rep told me it was the door to the garage from the house. I knew one of two things had happened;
1. The door was not properly closed and had cracked open
2. The one of the pets in the house may have been playing around the door and tried to pry it open.

I asked the alarm company rep not to call the police - I would have to deal with some false alarm penalties from the county police. Since one of my neighbors was working from home that day, I called and asked him to do a walk around the house to make sure the garage door was still closed and that there were no other issues. He confirmed that nothing was broken into or open.

It had me thinking, I would really like a camera system that I could remotely monitor. This way I could do a quick scan of the state of affairs giving the alarm company the go ahead to dispatch the police - or not.

I will share my research on a camera system in the form of an article.

    Here are some things I need to consider with the camera system
    - Wired vs wireless
    - Can I connect directly to it or will it need some additional software / server?
    - Night vision capabilities
    - Can I rotate the camera remotely
    - Can the camera be externally mounted?
    - How secure is my feed?
    - Should the system always be recording or can it auto record once it detects motion?
    - Where will the video footage be stored?
    - How much data and bandwidth will the system consume?
