    Default Building Materials Question

When building a house, one of the options was to use 2x6 studs, which would allow for R19 insulation instead of R13 (using the fiberglass batts). The cost to use 2x6s was probably an extra $2000 for the actual lumber and some modifications to the doors and windows. Plus the insulation was more expensive. Does anyone know how to calculate if that was worth it? Also, I know batts aren't the most efficient insulation. Would I have been better off saving the money on the 2x6's and spending it on better insulation (such as spray foam insulation)?

It really isn't a dumb question at all. In fact it really isn't a bad strategy. It's in line with the concept from Frank Lloyd Wright when he created his school, Taliesin. It is to learn by doing. The issue here is finding clients without a degree/qualifications.
