    Green Speed! 78 mpg, 0 - 60 in 3.2 Seconds Porsche 918 Spyder

Who said you can't go green and look cool doing so?

Porche has unveiled a 918 Spyder plug-in electric hybrid concept car which offers a traditional white knuckle driving experience (0 - 60 mph in 3.2 seconds), while burning an impressive 78 miles per gallon.

The electric charge has a range of 16 miles and the electric and gas powertrains work in at least four different configurations.

    1. E Drive - pure electric power Mode
This mode runs the car on just electric power and has a range of 16 miles

    2. Hybrid Mode
This mode is for everyday driving using both the electric and gas powertrains in a fuel efficient manner

    3. Sport Hybrid Mode
This mode uses both powertrains as well, however it is more power focused and less fuel efficient.

    4. Race Hybrid Mode
This is the mode most porsche drivers will gush for. Both power trains are tweaked for ultimate performance with the electric portion offering instant torque for that extra push. The car also supposedly offers a "push to pass button" sort of a electric nitrous option known as E-Boost. I am sure all other options currently available in electric vehicles are present as well in this porsche, such as regenerative breaking.

Porsche says the car will do the Nordschleife aka Nürburgring ring in less than 7:30 minutes !

Here is a video of the car at the Geneva Auto Show

wow. that car looks awesome! I wonder how much it will cost? I hope something reasonable just as Tesla did with their all electric sports car

7 1/2 minutes is a good time, but the second lap will be slower after the battery is dead!

Still pretty amazing for Porsche to have incorporated hybrid into a race vehicle. I wonder how many KWH it uses to get the 16 mile range...
