My Georgia Power Bill - Month of February 2010

I figured I'd keep you guys up-to-date with my current Power Bill as well as what I think contributed to it going up/down.

This month, my bill was $130, or $4.50 per day. Last month, my bill was $152 or $4.76 per day. So my bill went down by about 5% if you look at the per day average.

Here is what impacted my bill:

    1. Being in town drove my bill up. In January, I was out of town for 11 of the 32 days. I had all of the lights off, heat set down to 55 (instead of 68-70), underfloor heating off, instant hot water off, no use of dishwasher, washing machine or dryer, etc. In February, I was only out of town for 3 of the 29 days.

    2. The temperature was more moderate in February, which drove my bill down. Degree Days were 4.7% lower than January, which means less heat was needed in February.

    3. This one was probably slight. My downstairs HVAC system is meant to switchover to natural gas when it gets below 35 degrees outside. Heat Pump when it is above 35 degrees. In January, I realized that the outside thermostat that makes the switchover wasn't working. The heat pump was running even when it was 15 degrees outside, being really ineffective. So for the first half of the month, it was running the electric Heat Pump way too much. This probably cost and extra $10-$15 easy in January that got resolved for February. I'll be interested to see how much my gas bill is now that my system is more likely to switch over to natural gas.

But overall, my bill went down despite me being in town for almost the entire month. And check out the best part. Look at how my bill now shows 100% of my usage was "Winter Off Peak". Georgia Power did something differently and got my bill right! Good job getting the Time of Use right. Keep it up guys!

I'm new to this board, and this post interested me the most because of the photo of your energy bill. How did your bill look this time last year?
