Set your Timers! Georgia Power Time of Use / Nights and Weekends Starts Tuesday 6/1

Peak electricity season starts on Tuesday 6/1. From June to September, those who have chosen the Nights and Weekends plan with Georgia Power will be spending $0.18 per kwh instead of the normal ~ $0.04 per kwh for electricity from 2PM-7PM, Monday through Friday.

Here are some easy things to do to reduce your electricity usage during these times:

    1. Turn down the A/C. Your A/C is the biggest electricity hog in your house. Set your temperature up on your thermostat from 2-7PM during the week. Chances are you'll be at work anyway and won't notice the difference.
    2. Don't use appliances during the day. Dryers consumer a ton of energy. Dishwashers, Washing Machines, Ovens, Electric Stoves, and other small appliances eat up a lot as well. Shift your usage to the off-peak hours and save money.
    3. Turn off the lights unless it's absolutely necessary.
    4. Put things like instant hot water, water recirculation systems, pool pumps and electric hot water heaters on a timer and shift usage away from the 2PM-7PM "dead zone".

Good luck and please post with actual bills/experiences with this new program as you get them.

Or don't! Nights and Weekends with Georgia Power is a complete scam because of the fuel charge.
