Default Harvesting rainwater with rain barrels

I heard about this at work today - so I figured I should share. A coworker was actually setting up rain barrels to harvest rain water.
Initially it seemed like a novel but useless idea, until he mentioned that he can get up to 54 gallons of water in a major rain storm. So imagine what this means for not having to spend this money on your garden or lawn. By harvesting his rainwater, he can use that water to water his lawn and garden and it's free.

His setup is to take water runoff from his roof. Now one important thing to note is that we're not talking about getting rain water as drinking water. This water that's collected is not potable at all. But it does work great for your lawn and garden. I haven't heard people saying anything about using it in gardens ( fruits and veggies) - but my suggestion would be to NOT use runoff from your roof for gardens you eat from, but to use straight rainwater from the sky for that.

Good find! This could come in very handy during summer water restrictions. Hopefully if it rains enough to fill the tanks

That's what a lot of people are doing. Although if there are water restrictions - it's quite possible that there may be no rain

    Hey!!
It's really good to see that people are more and more interested in saving energy for further use. We can save energy in some other ways also and we should do efforts from our side. Hope if it rains then we will be able to save water.
